Instructors can use the Leganto course materials platform to put items on course reserve. For books or articles NOT already owned by the library, follow these instructions to place a course reserve request.

Step 1: Create or edit a course materials list in Leganto.

Step 2: Add item(s) to your course list

  • Once in your course list, click the blue Add button to add new items.
  • For books or articles not in the library already, you can't use "Search the Library" to add an new item . The Manual Entry option will let you type in title and creator information to manually describe the item you are tying to add. If the item is a book with an ISBN or an article with a DOI, try using that option to have the system enter descriptive information for you. You can also try the AI assisted "Import course materials"  option that convert lists of citations or references into items for your list.
  • For articles: if you have a PDF or other file already, you can "Upload File" to add the item to your list. The library will review the file and citation to make sure it meets copyright expectations.
  • When you add a book that is not already owned by the library to a list,  you will see a list of options pop up that will ask if you want to request a purchase. If you would like the library to try to buy a copy of the book, indicate your preference in the form. Purchases are dependent on cost, available funds and applicable collection development guidelines.

  • If you own a personal copy of the book and would like to add it to our physical course reserve shelf, select the "Don't purchase" option and add the item. Then go back and edit the item in the list, and navigate to the "Library Discussion" tab. Type in a message in the discussion that say you will bring a personal copy to the library. Then bring your copy to the circulation desk at your earliest convenience for processing.

Step 3: Allow time for library processing

  • Once you add the item to the list, you have completed the course reserves request form. Library staff will review any purchase requests an will respond with any questions regarding your request.
  • Requests for purchases should be made at least 2 weeks in advance of when they are needed, and fulfilling purchase requests could take even longer than that depending on the item.
  • Library staff will review requests for copyright compliance. If there is a problem with a request, library staff will contact the requesting instructor.
  • Once the item has been scanned, library staff add the file to the list and will mark the item in the course materials list as "Complete."

Step 4: Share the list with your students
