Instructors can use the Leganto course materials (also called reading lists) platform to put items on course reserve. For book chapters owned by the library specifically, follow these instructions to place a course reserve request for a book owned by the FGCU Library.
Step 1: Create or edit a course materials list in Leganto.
- Lists are accessible directly from the library website or through Canvas. There may already be a list created for your course or you may need to create a new one to go along with a current or upcoming course.
Step 2: Add item(s) to your course list.
- Once in your course list, click the blue Add button to add new items. Use the "Search the library" option to search for the book with the chapter you want to add to course reserve. Locate the copy you are looking for (add author information or filter to narrow down your results).

- Click the blue plus to add to list and then the blue Add button.
- When you do, you will be presented with options. For a book chapter from book that FGCU owns, you can select "Digitize pages or chapters." Enter either the page range you want digitized or type in "chapter (#)" in the text box to let the library know what part of the book you want added.

Step 3: Allow time for library processing
- Once you add the item to the list with the appropriate loan period, you have completed the course reserves request form. Library staff will retrieve the item from the shelf in the General Collection, scan the requested pages, and place it on the reserves shelf.
- Please allow at least 3 business days to complete this process.
- Library staff will review requests for copyright compliance. If there is a problem with a request, library staff will contact the requesting instructor.
- Once the item has been scanned, library staff add the file to the list and will mark the item in the course materials list as "Complete."
Step 4: Share the list with your students
- Enabling access to the course materials list in Canvas is required to give access to the scanned chapter to the students enrolled in your class.
