ProQuest Ebook Central offers most books with the ability to view in either EPUB or PDF and most books have some allowances for printing or downloading to PDF. All books in Ebooks Central now default to open in EPUB, which is a more accessible format, but is less like an original "print" page, like a PDF. If you have tried to download PDF chapters of a Ebook Central book (that allows PDF chapter download) and were unsuccessful, we have a suggested workaround. Try following these steps:

  1. When you click on a link to an Ebook Central book from the library catalog or course reading list, you should arrive at "landing page" for the book that displays the book's availability, which includes links to read the book online, download parts of the book (if allowed) and shows the page allowance for copy, print, or download. Even if you wish to download chapters from the book, we recommend that you click on "Read Online" to get to your options to download PDFs. Using the links on the book's landing page to download chapters may not work. You can try them, but if the PDF file that is created won't open for you, then the system considers that you have still used those pages from your download allowance at this time.

  2. When the book opens, it will open in EPUB format. This format allows free resizing of text and easy use of screen reading software. If you wish to download PDF chapters from here, you will need to switch to the PDF format. Do this by clicking on the book icon in the top right corner and then you will see a button that says switch to PDF.

  3. Now the books will display in a PDF reader. Navigate to the chapter you want to download (using the menu icon in the left side navigation) and then click the PDF icon at the top of the book viewer. It will offer you the current chapter for download and if you click continue, it will create a PDF for you. Follow the prompts and watch your downloads in the browser to see the file appear.
