On rare occasions, the library might have digitized one of the print books that we own and put it in your course reading list. When we do this, we have to limit access to one user at a time, just like we do with the print books we put on course reserve in the library building. The good news is that you can get in a virtual line to be the next person to view the digitized book when it is available.
There might be multiple resources listed in the reading list. Only some resources that say “view online” will be restricted to one user at a time. You will only know once you open the resource. There might be other books that have limited access that are provided by our vendors, like EBSCO or E-Book Central, and those will unfortunately not offer you a waitlist.
If you try to view a text and you get a message that says “Waitlist registry: The number of concurrent users has reached the limit” that means you’ve found one of the special digitized books and someone is already using it.
You can join the waitlist to be the first person to use the book when the other person is finished. Each person gets a maximum of two hours to use a book before it is automatically returned. If you join the waitlist by clicking the words "Join the waitlist" on the screen in the reading list display, you will get a email notification telling you that you are on the list.
When the book is returned and available, you will get another email notification letting you know that the book is ready for you to view. You will have 15 minutes to open the book before you lose your place in line.
If you click the link in the notification email to open the book, you may encounter a screen that says “Access Rights: You do not have permission to view this object.” This just means that you need to sign in to access it. Click on “Sign In” in the top right corner to sign in with your FGCU email and password.
You should then be able to view the book. You will have the book for two hours, but you may return it early to let the next person in line have it.
The waitlist function is available between midnight and 7 am.
