Embedding a Video as an Item Within A Course Module

  1. After logging into Canvas, select Courses from the left menu and select the course where you would like to embed a ProQuest document. Note that you will need course editing privileges to proceed.
  2. For an existing module, select the + sign at the right to add a content item. If you don’t have a module, you can add one with the + Module button.
  3. From the Add dropdown, select External Tool. 
  4. From the list of External Tools that appears in the popup, select the Alexander Street Videos external tool. 
  5. A frame will open and display a search box for the Alexander Street database.
  6. You can search and browse within this frame to find the video you wish to embed or link to.
  7. Once identified, click the "Select this" button to select the video you’d like to embed in your module.
  8. This will return you to the Add Item form in Canvas. Scroll down and enter a meaningful Page Name.
  9. For an embedded video experience, uncheck the Load in new tab checkbox.
  10. Click the Add Item button to complete the addition of the link. Click the new link. It should open a frame to play the video you selected without requiring authentication to ProQuest.

Embedding a Video within a Canvas Assignment

  1. While editing an assignment, find the Submission Type menu below the rich text editor. In the associated dropdown menu, select External Tool.
  2. Select the Find button and a Configure External Tool pop-up menu will be displayed.
  3. Choose the Alexander Street Video external tool. A frame will open and display the home page of the ProQuest platform associated with this tool.
  4. You can search and browse within this frame to find the video you wish to embed or link to.
  5. Once identified, click the "Select this" button to select the video you’d like to embed in your assignment.
  6. This will return you to the Configure External Tool form. Finish the process with the Select button.
  7. Save your assignment to view a preview of your assignment and to verify that the process was successful.

 

Adding A Link To A Video Using The Assignment Page’s Rich Text Editor

  1. Select the “Apps” dropdown menu in the toolbar of the rich text editor and select the Alexander Street Video external tool. Please note: This menu is represented by an icon that looks like an electrical plug. If you do not see this icon, it may be hidden within the “More” menu (represented by three dots stacked vertically).

  2. A frame will open and display a search box for Alexander Street Videos.
  3. You can search and browse within this frame to find the video you wish to link to.
  4. Once identified, click the "Select this" button to select the video you’d like to link to in your assignment.
  5. You should now have a working link to the video within your assignment description.
  6. Save your assignment to view a preview of your assignment. Click the link to verify that the process was successful.
